If you would like to read our policies and procedures please look at the Operation Plan which is always available and on display in the playroom. We would draw your attention in particular to the following policies:

• Valuing Diversity and promoting equality

• Child Protection

• Complaints

• Achieving positive behaviour

• Health and Safety

• Special Educational Needs/Disability

Equality and Diversity

It is the policy of Ecclesall Pre-school that everyone will be treated individually and with equal concern. No child or adult will be discriminated against in any way regardless of gender, age, race, ethnic origin, religious belief, ability, class, culture, marital status or sexual orientation and the staff are committed to reflecting this in our attitudes, activities and resources in pre-school. We have a member of staff whose role is to co-ordinate the development of our policy and monitor its implementation. This person is known as the Equality Named Co-ordinator, or ENCO for short.

Child Protection

It is our responsibility to create an environment in which children are safe from abuse and in which any suspicion of abuse is promptly and appropriately responded to.

To this end all our staff are checked for their suitability to work with young children. Adults who have not been checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service, e.g. parents sharing a morning with their child in pre-school, will not be allowed to take any child, other than their own, to the toilet. Similarly they will not be allowed any unsupervised contact with the children. Regular volunteers and students will submit to a DBS check unless there are exceptional circumstances when this is not possible. They will not be permitted unsupervised contact of any sort.

Complaints Procedure

If you have any concerns or anxieties about any aspect of the group’s provision please talk these over with the Pre-school Manager. She is happy to receive phone calls at home – nothing is too trivial. In a child’s mind something quite small and easily resolved can seem very big and unsettling. Please tell us right away and we will try to sort it out.

Should this not lead to a satisfactory outcome please refer to the Ecclesall Pre-school Complaints Policy and Procedure which is displayed on the noticeboard in Room 2 and on the curriculum notice board in the corridor outside the playroom.

Whilst it is important that you are aware of our complaints procedure we hope that we can deal with any of your concerns promptly. We welcome suggestions which will help us to improve our service and invite you to speak informally to any member of staff or to your parents’ representatives on the Committee. There is also a suggestions envelope attached to the Committee noticeboard in the corridor outside Room 2.
